Christianing “D”
Thank you very much to all those who attended Dylan’s Christianing last Sunday and also to those who were with us in thoughts. It was a solemn ceremony even though there were 4 babies baptized that day. Dylan standing out as the only Asian with his mini ‘Barong’.
He was asleep when the priest poured the Holy Water 3 times on his forehead. The last part where the priest raised up each baby for the ‘proclamation’ as being new members of the Christian world, Baby D was in shock. The applauding Italians made him shake a bit, as if saying, “ What happen’? What happened?”
The other babies had only one or two godparents while ours were eleven. It was the first time of that community to see many Pinoys. Maybe they call it “occasional” church goers. Not that we Pinoys don’t go to church, its just that, most of us go to Fava in Venice. It’s where you’ll see many Filipinos during Sundays . We live an hour ride away from Fava that’s why we had the baptism in the church near our place.
It was also the first time of the Chinese restaurant we hired to dish up such occassion. Their servings were literally in bulk and we were very much satisfied. So with the taste and service. We even brought home a lot of food that added what we prepared for dinner to our friends who did not make it for lunch.
There was an official photographer of the church during the mass and the christianing rites. We were only aloud to take photos before and after. We will be getting the pictures on Friday.
Such spending makes me guilty sometimes when I think of those people who are in need. But being with friends and family celebrating my children’s special days, gives me the feeling of being close to “home’’. It also bonds my kids with their Filipino heritage…good food, good-happy-loud company and every day off calls for a festivity.
